A wetting agent, also referred to as an adjuvant, is added to the spray mixture. It reduces the surface tension of the water, helping the spray spread more evenly over the leaf, adhere better and penetrate more readily. The plant protection product itself remains unchanged.
For herbicides, fungicides and insecticides, this means:
- More even distribution over the leaf surface, including waxy or hairy leaves.
- Improved adhesion of active substances, reducing run-off.
- Faster drying and improved rainfastness after application.
- Reduced drift during fine spraying, for example in fruit growing and viticulture.
Wetting agents are well established. Efficiency has become increasingly important: active-substance quantities are falling, requirements are increasing and every pass costs money. A wetting agent that supports more reliable application is therefore part of good application practice.
